Realm of Chaos, towards the siege of Praag

The warbands gaming continues, I added another player to this casual gaming endeavor and now we have a representation of each of the ruinous powers.

Cyrus' warband of Khorne, The champion rides a horse, the followers are a group of 8 beastmen, 4 orcs and 3 chaos centaurs.

Doyle's followers of Slaanesh, the champion is a wizard and carries a bow, his followers are 2 bestmen, a lone cultist and a marauder.

My servants of Tzeentch, a champion on disk, 4 brigands carrying the warband's magic blasted standard (being modelled at the moment) and 3 border horses led by a Lvl 10 champion riding a chaos steed.

The fourth palyer, Max, rolled a warband of Nurgle, Chaos dwarf wizard champion with 5 chaos spowns, a marauder and a lonely beastman standard bearer, but we are still lacking appropriate models for him, so no picrure yet.

Last game was a lengthy free for all. The champions had found out that in a small village on the North of Praag, a small shrine of Myrmidia had a mysterious magical artefact in its custody, so they all headed in that direction to find if they could acquire said item, without specific knowledge on the occupants of the shrine and the nature of the item.

The four warbands start at each corner of the field, the building in the center is the shrine.

The brigands of Tzeench start advancing towards the center line, to intercent the followers of Khorne.

On the opposite corner the Khornate warband also advances as fast as it can.

The Champion of Tzeentch (the former Bretonnian Guillaume) speeds to the shrine only to be intercepted and stopped by the head monk who casts a wind blast in his direction.

Meanwhile the followers of Nurgle shuffle forwards, the chaos spawns don't seem to want to follow their master's orders.

When Guillaume decides to fly east away from the magi wind being thrown in his face, he finds himself dangerously close to the warband of Slaanesh which has been sneakily advancing on the eastern side of the field.

In a burst of lucidity, a big and fast chaos spawn runs into the shrine door and start bashing it down with bare fists.

In a quick and bloody fight, the border horses get rid of the Khornate centaurs and champion and chese them off the table.

The spawns seem to all wake up from their stupor and begin advancing in a semi-coordinated way towards the objective.

Guillaume decides to charge his Slaaneshi counterpart, not realizing that the apparently weak champion of Slaanesh had previously enhanced his fighting abilities with a Hammerhand spell and pays dearly for his mistake. He resists for a turn before being cut down.

Due to the mounting body count, all warbands, except for the Nurgle one decide to flee and save their skin instead of risk annihilation at the hands of the numerous stupid but too resilient spawns and daemon weapon wielding chaos marauder of Nurgle, so the Lord of Pestilence carries the day and steals the magical item.

The casualty rolls determine that the already very small warband of Slaanesh permanently looses one beastman and the chaos marauder, so Doyle decided to scrap it and roll a new one for next game.

The champion of Khorne suffer a second body wound, so his T is now 1, but he is undaunted and will keep fighting for the glory of the Lord of Skulls.

Guillaume is found to be just unconscious and will be ready for next fight.

Max's warband if Nurgle is victorious, so his champion will receive a new reward and new followers.

This week only me and Cyrus will be able to play a game, so it will be something more simple and I will try to document it with more and hopefully better pictures.

Back on the table

After a very long time, I finally managed to have a couple of old style games at home.

This time I convinced a couple of friends to try Warhammer 3rd edition with the Chaos warbands rules from Realms of Chaos.

We had a first game where a warband of Khorne (Cyrus) was trying to wrestle some treasure from a ruined temple defended by a goblin champion of Nurgle (Doyle).

The followers of Nurgle managed to win the game and got a new disease from a rotting corpse found in a sarcophagus in the temple, but their champion was killed and the warband lost cohesion and was dispersed.

For the second game Doyle rolled a new warband, this time the champion follower Slanesh.

Some not great dice rolling gave him a warband only composed of four characters and was tasked to assault a dwarf convoy returning from a mine loaded with iron for the forges of Praag, a hard task ahead of him.

To add insult to injury, he found a champion of Khorne (Cyrus) and his warband waiting for him.

The two warbands concentrated their effort on the convoy and managed to destroy the dwarf guards and steal the load, the followers of Khorne managed to get away with one wagon, while the Slaaneshi warriors took two.

This time I acted as an umpire and took few pictures, I'll make sure we get more pictures next time (hopefully next weekend), in the meantime I am frenetically preparing some figures in an attempt to only use painted figures and have the correct(ish) models, as far as that's possible using the Realms of Chaos rules.

Star Wars skirmish

Yesterday I had, after I don't remember how long, a small game. We played a small Star Wars game using Rogue trader rules.

The basic plot was centered around a freighter ship the rebel alliance was tying to move off world with a load of illegal droids, civilian refugees, a "liberated" imperial engineer and some equipment.

The Empire was tipped by some bounty hunters and put together a force to stop the ship and take back the assets.

The rebel force was heavily outnumbered and outgunned, they put up a good fight, but bad luck didn't help and the ship was taken and only a handful managed to escape the massacre.

Here are a few pictures of the game.

Second Mordheim game

This is the second Mordheim game we managed to play, the previous one happened in february, just before the first lock down, let's just hope theree is not going to be another lock down.

This time it was a simple two sided game, with my beastmen warband and Cyrus Reikland mercenaries searching the ruins for some rumored treasure.

It was not a very long game, in the 3rd turn I managed to both find the treasure and put enough of the Reiklanders out of action that Cyrus had to roll for his Leadership and, with his captain already out, he failed and the warband ran.

The post game phase was also very interesting, I found a light armour and some valuables in the treasure chest, and with 3 shards of wyrdstone managed to buy a new Gor and three Ungors to bolster the warband.

Cyrus was not so lucky, his captain will be missing the next 4 games, due to multiple injuries, but at least won't suffer any long term effects and he managed to replace the only casualty of the game.

The Reikland mercenaries set up and start advancing and searching for the treasure from the North side of the table.

The beastmen do the same from the South.

From the second turn the warbands get close and the minotaur, due to its frenzy, is obliged to charge the Reikland captain, but quickly put him out of action.

The ungors stalk the ruins, while the Reikland heroes partol their side of the area.

During the third turn the Gor finds the treasure, while the ungors kill a marksman that was searching another ruined building.

Battlesystem again

A few days ago I was talking with Cyrus about playing some game and he asked to play Battlesystem again.

I was quite surprised, but accepted right away. He aslked to play something connected to our ongoing D&D campaign.

Now I had to find a scenario for which I had enough stuff and that wouldn't take too long to play through and that was connected to the campaign, not an easy task.

Then I remembered reading module I14, Swords of the Iron Legion. This is a D&D/Battlesystem campaign set in the Forgotten Realms. The setting is about all that links it to our campaign, but I thought, better then nothing.

I was also curious to play some of the weirder scenarios in the module. Reviews are not too kind to this module, the connection between the various adventures is poor and the main plot not even apparent to the players. My idea is, therefor, to play the Battlesystem scenarios ignoring the RPG parts and just using them as a backdrop to tell the story of the campaign.

The first scenario, The storm of Greshlyrr, sees a force of Kobolds assaulting a gnome village. It is a very small scenario, so we managed to play it over a couple of hours.

I obviously don't own enough kobolds or gnomes to field armies of them, so some proxying had to be done, here are some pictures of the game.

The preparation and selection of the scenario.

The village of Gildenglade and its defenders, some militia and civilians

Greshlyrr and its kobold tribe.

More shots of the village and some of its inhabitants.

The battle was closely fought, in the end most of the defenders fled back into the village, but the kobolds leader also fled the field and the remaining kobolds decided their lives were more valuable then loot or revenge, so it ended as a draw.

The next battle involves a lot of cavalry on both sides, I'll see if and when I can gather all the troops, but it won't bee too soon.

First game after lockdown

I finally managed to get a game after the two months lockdown.
We had a little 500 points game using another Siege and Conquest scenario: "The messenger" using the Warhammer fantasy 6th edition rules.
It was a fun little game and very close until the very end.

This time I was in control of the orcs and (mostly) goblins.
The game went down to a challenge between the two force commanders and the orc hero prevailed and killed the Empire captain.
The highlight of the game were a couple of trolls that failed every single stupidity test and kept going towards an empty table quadrant for the whole game.
